DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College baseball program has announced its winter camps schedule, which features 10 separate clinics from December 29 through February 19. Most clinics are scheduled to be conducted inside of DC’s brand new George M. Smart Athletic Center. The winter camp schedule will begin on December 29th and 30th with a two-day Little Hitters Camp for the ages of four through seven years. The instructional camp will be held inside DC’s Karl H. Weaner Community Center and will focus on basic skills. The camp will go from 10:00 am through 11:00 am each day with a cost of $10 per camper. The nine other clinics are currently scheduled to take place inside DC’s new 84,000-square foot field house, as some of the first events to be hosted by the new facility. The Holiday Hitting Clinics will lead things off with sessions from noon until 2:00 pm on December 29 and 30. The cost for these sessions will be a reduced rate of $20 each and the camps are open to players in grades 3-12. A more advanced Hitting Camp will follow on January 14 from noon until 3:00 pm for grades 3-12. This camp will cost $35 and will specialize on the hitting stance, stride, swing and finish, while also offering instruction on bunting and base running techniques. An Instructional Camp will be held from noon until 3:00 pm on the very next day of January 15, for grades 3 through 8. This session will cost $35 and is designed to focus on the fundamentals of infield play, outfield play base running and hitting. The DC Hitting School will take place on January 22, 29 and February 5 from noon until 2:00 pm. The camps are open to grades 3 through 12 and offer a total of six hours of hitting instruction and drill work. Campers can attend all three for $80, or select individual dates for $30 each. A Pitchers and Catchers Camp will also be offered on February 18. This camp is open to grades 3 through 12 at a cost of $35 and will last from noon until 3:00 pm. Pitchers will listen to lectures and work on mechanical fundamentals, while catchers receive instruction on receiving, blocking and throwing techniques. The final event will be the High School Prospect Camp on February 19 from noon until 3:00 pm. This session is for sophomores, juniors and seniors in high school who are interested in playing baseball at the collegiate level. Each camper will be evaluated in the areas of running, throwing, fielding and hitting at a cost of $35. There will be a $10 discount offered for registering for multiple camps, as well as for registering more than one family member to the same camp. Discounts do not apply to separate days of the same event and an additional $10 fee will be added for walk-up registrations. To maximize the attention that each camper can get, participants will be divided into small groups for a more personalized experience. Camps will feature indoor batting cages, toss nets, tees and several other hitting and teaching aids. All campers will receive a camp shirt and will get instruction from the DC baseball coaching staff and players.
