DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Yellow Jacket baseball team played a doubleheader against Anderson on Saturday to finish the three-game series between the two sides. After the Ravens claimed game one an evening before, Anderson completed the sweep of DC by winning two games on Saturday by scores of 10-7 and 6-0.

Things did not start well for the Purple and Gold, as the Ravens scored six runs in the bottom of the first in game one of the doubleheader to put the Yellow Jackets in an early hole. All six runs were unearned.

Defiance clawed back in the third and managed to scrape two runs across the dish off a Chris Donese two-run double to cut the deficit to four at 6-2.

Errors once again struck the DC defense in the fourth inning, as two fielding miscues led to two more Raven runs to push the lead back up to six runs.

The Yellow Jackets immediately responded in the top half of the fifth to plate three runs and narrow the gap to three at 8-5. Darin Waterman was responsible for most of the damage, as the junior designated hitter laced a double down the left field line to drive in two. Patrick Masopust followed by picking up an RBI on a groundout.

Unfortunately for Defiance, three runs is as close as the team got to Anderson in game one. Anderson scored two in the seventh frame and DC added two in the eighth to finish with a score of 10-7.

Despite the 10 Raven runs, the DC pitchers combined to give up only two earned runs. Offensively the Purple and Gold was led by Donese, Waterman, Aaron Helland and Ryan Kohlhofer, as each player produced two hits.

Game two of the day began in similar fashion to game one, as Anderson’s bats gave the Ravens an early advantage. AU scored two runs in the first, one in the second and added two more in the third to jump out to a 5-0 lead.

Anderson’s starting pitcher Jake Eaton turned in a masterful performance from the rubber, as the starter pitched eight shutout innings while giving up only five hits and three walks en route to a comfortable 6-0 Raven victory, Eaton’s second of the season.

With the two losses, DC’s record falls to 8-7 on the season and 2-4 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Yellow Jackets are back on the diamond on Tuesday, April 2 as the team hosts archrival Bluffton University in a conference clash at 4:15 p.m.
