DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College football team completed numerous projects this fall to impact the surrounding community. The list of activities included sending groups to several local camps and to Kid’s Creation, along with participating in the Scrap Metal for Kids program. The first day of service took place on August 12, as the squad tallied a total of 642 man hours working on multiple projects. Along with spreading mulch at the local Kid’s Creation in Defiance, groups were also sent to help upgrade facilities at Camp Lakota and Camp Libbey. Several other groups tackled maintenance projects on the DC campus, as well as at the Defiance County Fairgrounds, Riverside and Bronson Parks and Riverside Cemetery. The Jackets then teamed up later in the fall to participate in the Scrap Metal for Kids program, while donating and loading approximately 2,900 pounds of scrap metal to be recycled. All proceeds from the project were used to buy Christmas toys for children in and around the Defiance community. The service projects were part of Defiance College’s ongoing efforts to have an impact and to make a difference in its community. In the past two years alone, DC student-athletes have accounted for more than 5,000 hours of service. ##### |
