WACO, Texas - The American Football Coaches Association announced its 2013 All America Team Monday and Defiance College defensive back Tony Sierra was awarded the honor along with 24 other players across Division III of the NCAA.

The Warren, Mich. native had a remarkable senior campaign that wrapped up with the Cousino High School product leading the nation in passes defended with 26 on the season. Sierra also tied for the conference lead and was ranked 13th nationally in interceptions with five on the season. Sierra also made 39 tackles on the year and returned one fumble recovery for a touchdown.

Sierra is the 53rd player to earn an All America award in the history of Defiance College football. The last All America awards for Defiance came in 2011 when Joemese Scott (2nd team) and Andy Cessna (Honorable Mention) earned the distinction of All American.

In 2013, Sierra has brought in several postseason accolades. He was named the HCAC Defensive Player of the Year and was an All-HCAC First Team selection. Last week, Sierra was recognized as a First Team All-North Region Team selection and was also named a finalist for the Cliff Harris Award, the nation's top defender in NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and the NAIA.
