DEFIANCE, Ohio – Fans of the Yellow Jackets will get their first chance to see the men’s basketball team in action, while also helping support the United Way, when DC hosts its Purple and Gold scrimmage on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 3:00 pm. The Defiance College men’s basketball team has partnered with the Defiance County United Way to increase awareness and support of the pioneer organization’s mission to ‘Live United’, by joining forces in staging the season opening intrasquad scrimmage. Through 32 partner agencies, the United Way provides support that either maintains or completely funds 42 programs that directly meet the needs of the local Defiance community. Beneficiaries of the United Way include Habitat for Humanity, Girl Scouts and the Defiance American Red Cross. DC Head Coach Kyle Brumett states that the mantra of ‘Think of We Before Me’ made the decision to invite the United Way as the recipient of the team’s support was an obvious choice. “As a basketball coach, I have built a career on the concept of teamwork. Joining forces with the Defiance County United Way reinforces the fact that when we combine our talents and energy, we can achieve great things for ourselves and our community.” Tip-off for the Purple and Gold intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday, Nov. 1 is set for 3:00 pm inside of the Karl H. Weaner Community Center, located on the campus of Defiance College. While fans will be admitted at no cost, they are encouraged to make a donation to the Defiance County United Way. Along with the opportunity to get a glimpse of the defending HCAC Champions, while supporting the United Way, fans will also be invited to participate in a half court shot contest and will be treated to a slam dunk contest among members of the DC squad. ##### |
