Graduate Assistant Men's Lacrosse Coach

James Hanson will be in his first season as a graduate assistant coach with the Defiance men's lacrosse program in 2014-15.

Hanson, a native of Tucson, Ariz., comes to Defiance after being the primary assistant coach at Missouri Valley College.  During his time at Missouri Valley, his defense lead the Great Rivers Lacrosse Conference in goals against average at 6.2 goals per game and a 69.9 save percentage, which led to a conference and a berth in the MCLA National Tournament in their inaugural season.  The team also was in the upper half of all of Division II of the MCLA in ground balls. Hanson helped to shape three all-conference award winners during his time with the Vikings.

Prior to his coaching career, Hanson was a four-year starter at defense for Hendrix College in Conway, Ark. and was named captain his senior year. While at Hendrix, Hanson captured the career record in caused turnovers and was third in ground balls. Hanson also tabbed first-team All-Conference in the 2010 season.

“We are very excited to have Coach Hanson join our staff at Defiance,” stated Whitcraft. “His knowledge and ability to teach our student-athletes on and off the field will be a vital part of our program’s success.”

Hanson received his bachelor/s degree in allied health in 2012.  After graduation, Hanson pursued his certification in strength and conditioning from the NSCA.
