LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Yellow Jacket men’s lacrosse squad traveled to Lexington, Ky. to face the Pioneers of Transylvania University in a non-conference clash on Saturday afternoon. Defiance was unable to record a victory and fell by a final score of 12-2.

The Pioneers got on the scoreboard early in the game, as Ben Erwin scored less than two minutes into the first to give Transylvania a 1-0 lead.

The Jackets fought back and leveled the score at 1-1 off Jesse Bailey’s fourth goal of the season, all coming in the last two games. After the goal, the Pioneers managed to score again before the first quarter horn to take a 2-1 lead into the second stanza.

After a fairly even first quarter, Transylvania dominated the second and third frames. The Pioneers outscored the Jackets by a total of 10-0 over the 30-minute span to break the game wide open and give the hosts a commanding 12-1 lead heading into the final frame.

In the fourth, James Lopez scored the quarter’s only goal for the Purple and Gold, the freshman’s first of his Yellow Jacket career. The Pioneers then went on to win by a final of 12-2.

With the loss, DC falls to 0-3 on the season. The Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, March 13, as Defiance hosts Bethany at 4:00 p.m.
