DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College men’s lacrosse team hosted the Griffins of Fontbonne University in a Midwest Lacrosse Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Griffins came away with a 9-1 victory over the Purple and Gold.

Both teams got off to a slow start in the first quarter, as the two sides could not capitalize on goal-scoring opportunities for much of the frame. The Griffins were the first to get into the scoring column, as Fontbonne scored the game’s opening goal with just under one minute left in the period.

Much like the first, the second quarter was a defensive struggle, as both teams were hard-pressed to find the back of the net. Fontbonne managed to add two goals in the stanza to increase its lead to 3-0 by the halftime horn.

The Griffins were able to put 13 shots on target in the first half compared to the Purple and Gold’s six attempts on frame. One positive for Defiance was the faceoff circle, as the Jackets won three of five in the first 30 minutes.

The second half was dominated by the visitors from St. Louis, as Fontbonne outscored DC 3-0 in the third stanza and 3-1 in the final frame to win by a comfortable score of 9-1.

Defiance’s lone goal scorer on the afternoon was Ian Finch, who scored his first career goal as a Yellow Jacket.

With the defeat, the Purple and Gold’s record drops to 0-9 on the season and 0-3 in the MLC. DC travels to Hanover for its next game, as the Jackets take on the Panthers on Wednesday, April 3. Start time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
