LISLE, Ill. – The Defiance College men’s lacrosse program traveled to Benedictine University in search of its first win in program history. The Purple and Gold was outplayed on the Sunday afternoon, as the Eagles comfortably won by a final of 21-3.

Benedictine got on the board early, as the Eagles’ Andrew Zmijewski scored within the first two minutes of the first quarter. The hosts added three more scores in the first 15 minutes to gain a 4-0 advantage after one quarter of play.

The Eagles tacked on four more in the second before DC’s Jesse Bailey got the Yellow Jackets in the scoring column on his team-leading 12th goal of the season with just under eight minutes left in the opening half.

At the halftime intermission, Benedictine held an 11-1 advantage over the Jackets. One positive from the first 30 minutes was Defiance’s ability to clear the ball, as the team successfully converted 7-of-9 opportunities.

The Purple and Gold played even with the home team in the third stanza, as both team found the back of the net twice. DC’s goals were provided by James Lopez and Bailey, their seventh and 13th goal of the season respectively.

The Eagles went on to add eight scores in the final frame on their way to a 21-3 win.

The defeat moves the Jackets’ season record to 0-14 and their Midwest Lacrosse Conference mark to 0-7. DC hosts Carthage in its last home game of the program’s inaugural program on Saturday, April 20. Faceoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
