DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College men’s soccer team battled in the beginning, but the visiting Greenville Panthers were too much as the Yellow Jackets fell 3-0 in the season opener. DC falls to 0-1-0 on the year as the Panthers improve to 1-0-0.

As the teams started out the match, each squad had its opportunities at the goal, but only one eventually took advantage as Greenville notched its first goal in the 35th minute. The Panthers Robert Wright got free on a breakaway and dribbled around Jackets goalkeeper Sean Roberts to tap the ball in the goal for his first score on the year.

The match went into half at 1-to-0 Greenville, but DC could not find any rhythm in its offense as they did not register a single shot in the half. Unfortunately for the Jackets, the Panthers kept the defensive pressure on in the second half as they controlled the game, while also adding two more scores. The match went final with Greenville coming out on top 3-to-0.

DC’s next game is set for Sunday, September 2 when the team hosts Alma in their second match of the DC Purple and Gold Classic. The game is set to kick off at 4 p.m. at Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field.
