Yellow Jackets Rattled By Thunder in 4-0 Defeat
9/11/2012 | Defiance, OH | Attendance: 55
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The DC men’s soccer team was held scoreless in a 4-0 loss to the Trine Thunder on Tuesday, September 11. The victory extends Trine’s winning streak to five against Defiance, as the Thunder improve to 2-3-0, while the Jackets sink to 0-5-0.
The match started with both squads controlling the ball relatively evenly and a few shots at the net. Then in the 35th minute, a foul on Defiance just outside the box gave Trine a free kick, which it grabbed and played rapidly when DC was not ready.
The Thunder’s Andre Hilson tapped the free kick quickly to teammate Curtis Holcom who drilled the ball into the goal for a 1-0 Trine advantage. From that point on, it only got worse for the Jackets as they seemed to let the crucial mistake get into their heads.
After sustaining the 1-0 deficit into half, DC came out flat in the second period and surrendered a pair of goals in the first 11 minutes to fall behind 3-0. It was just too much for the team to overcome.
Trine then tacked on another score in the 63rd minute to really put the game away, as the Thunder grabbed the victory 4-0. On the day for Trine, senior Curtis Holcom notched a hat trick to improve his season goals total to five.
The Yellow Jackets are next in action on Friday, September 14 when they travel to Columbus to battle the Capital Crusaders. The game will start at 1 p.m.
