FRANKLIN, Ind. – It was a rough day for the DC men’s soccer team, as it was shutout 3-0 by the Franklin Grizzlies on Saturday, October 13 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Action.
Franklin got off to a quick start in the match by scoring a goal in the third minute of the game when Andreas Kapsalis beat junior goalkeeper Sean Roberts and gave the Grizzlies the early 1-0 lead.
DC would recover with a few positive possessions and rack up the next four shots in the game, but could not convert. Slowly, Franklin got play back to even, as both teams would go back and forth over the rest of the half and head into intermission with the Grizzlies up 1-0.
In the second period, the home team started to take control in the match and gained a huge boost when it notched its second goal of the day in the 59th minute. Kapsalis snuck one by Roberts again for his second goal of the day.
Then Franklin sealed the deal when it scored goal number three with 15 minutes left in regulation. Defiance tried throughout the game to get its offense going, but the stifling Grizzlies defense was too much for the Yellow Jackets.
With the defeat, DC falls to 2-12-1 (2-2-1 HCAC) and Franklin improves to 5-6-2 (3-1-1 HCAC)
Defiance will return to Winsper-Knobel in its next match on Tuesday, October 16 when they take on the Anderson Ravens. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
