Men’s Swimming in Sixth After Day One of Championships

AKRON, Ohio – The Yellow Jackets’ men’s swimming team is in sixth place through ten events at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships in Akron, Ohio. The DC men totaled 11 points on the day. Freshman swimmer Dylan Textor turned in a great performance in the 500-yard freestyle race. Textor entered the morning prelims with the 16th best time in the conference with a mark of 5:15.56. The freshman stepped up and managed to cut his previous best time by over 24 seconds with a time of 4:51.25. This was the third best time in the prelims for the event and qualified Textor for the finals. In the finals, the freshman turned in a time of 5:00.02, which placed him eighth overall and earned 11 points for the team. The other two swimmers for DC also had career performances. Freshman Ben Werbiskis nearly lowered his personal best time by one second in the 50-yard freestyle, and freshman William Johns improved his time in the 500-yard freestyle by over 20 seconds. Head coach Tyler Dixon was very encouraged by his team’s performance after the first day of the championships. “Our guys did exactly what we wanted to do today,” said Dixon. “We stepped up to the challenge of these championships and really performed well. Every one of our swimmers recorded his best time of the season in the morning prelims. I am really happy with our team’s effort.” Day two of the championships begin tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. with the preliminary races. The finals are scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m. |
