Three Yellow Jackets Receive Preseason Accolades

GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Defiance College men’s tennis team placed three of its members on the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Players to Watch list. The list and the preseason poll were released on Tuesday morning.

The Yellow Jackets were selected to finish ninth in the conference in the preseason polls, which were voted on by the 10 head coaches in the conference. The Jackets received a total of 29 votes, just one behind eighth place Manchester.

Of the three DC athletes that were selected as players to watch, the only senior is Trevor Ault. The senior played number one singles for Defiance last season compiling an overall record of 8-13 in singles play. In doubles, Ault finished with an overall record of 8-15.

Sophomore Cord Speelman was another player that was picked as a player to watch for the 2012 campaign. Speelman played at both the four and five singles position last season for the Purple and Gold. As a freshman Speelman’s singles record was 7-13.

The third player to be recognized as a player likely to make an impact on the upcoming season is junior Craig Bills. The Rockford, Ohio native competed at number five or six singles for the majority of last season.

Defiance begins its season on Saturday, February 18 when the Jackets travel to Berea, Ohio to play Baldwin-Wallace. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
