Yellow Jacket Tennis Bests Bethel by Score of 6-3
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College men’s tennis program notched its fourth victory in its last five matches on Friday afternoon, as the Yellow Jackets pulled out a 6-3 win over non-conference opponent Bethel College.
The Purple and Gold claimed points in two out of the three doubles matches, as each position was highly competitive. The one doubles team of Ryan Nelson and Cord Speelman held off the Pilots by a final of 9-7, while Mike Ross and Craig Bills recorded an 8-5 victory.
The Yellow Jackets used the momentum from doubles and carried it into their singles play. Ross and Bills cruised to wins at the one and four positions respectively in straight-set fashion, while Nelson and Tyler Thiel gutted out three set victories to give DC the 6-3 win.
The win marks the first time the team recorded multiple three-set wins in a match.
Defiance’s record improves to 5-7 on the season with the victory. The Purple and Gold is back in action on Wednesday, April 10, as the squad travels to Manchester to take on the Spartans in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference showdown. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
