FINDLAY, Ohio – The Yellow Jacket men’s track and field team traveled to Findlay, Ohio on Friday afternoon for the Northwest Ohio Invitational. Despite the frigid temperatures outside, it did not take DC long to heat up indoors as three Defiance records fell on the evening.

The most outstanding performance for the Purple and Gold belonged to freshman thrower Tom Postema, who competed in the shot put and weight throw. The freshman set the Defiance record in shot put, throwing for a distance of 15.07 meters, which also currently ranks as the best mark in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

In the weight throw Postema was equally impressive. The freshman’s throw of 18.41 meters places him in second place in the DC records. That distance not only is the best mark to this point in the HCAC but also the third best in the entire nation.

Senior distance runner Justin Perkins improved on his already record-holding time of 9:02.49 seconds from the 2011 season with a time of 9:01.15 on Friday. The senior has the third best time in the HCAC so far this season.

The third record breaker for Defiance was junior sprinter and hurdler Jordan Weber, who now holds the record for the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.93 seconds. Weber is presently fourth overall in this event in the HCAC.

Other notable performers for the Jackets were junior Aaron Demecs, freshman Troy Parrett, and sophomore Madison Murphy. Demecs turned in time of 7.24 seconds in the 60-meter dash and 36.45 in the 300-meter dash, which earned the junior second and fourth place in the Defiance record book respectively. Parrett and Murphy both ran in the 500-meter dash. Parrett’s time of 1:09.23 places him
second in DC history for the event, and Murphy’s time of 1:09.30 places him third.

Team scores were not reported for this invitational.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, January 28, when they travel to Granville, Ohio for the Denison Invitational. The invite is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
