DC’s Postema Honored as HCAC Field Athlete of the Week

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Defiance College junior thrower Tom Postema was recognized on Monday as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week. This is the first week of the 2012 indoor season that the HCAC has given the award.

Postema competed in the shot put and weight throw events on Friday evening at the Northwestern Ohio Invitational at Findlay, Ohio. The junior broke the all-time DC record in the shot put by posting a distance of 49’ 5.5”, which currently places Postema 25th in the nation.

The Defiance native’s performance in the weight throw was equally impressive as he recorded the second longest throw in school history with a mark of 60’ 5”. The weight throw distance is the fifth best in the nation to date.

Postema and the rest of the Yellow Jackets’ track and field team will be back in on the track on Saturday, January 28 when they travel to Denison University. The invitational is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
