Track and Field picks back up with NW Ohio Meet
DEFIANCE, Ohio – After no meets for a little over a month for the men and women’s track and field teams, they are set to get back into the swing of things this Friday. Both teams will compete in the Northwest Ohio Invitational in Findlay, Ohio.
The University of Findlay will host the event, which will take place at the Robert A. Malcolm Athletic Center. The meet will consist of 15 teams. The field events will begin at 2:30 p.m. and running events will get started at 5:00 p.m.
Back on December 6, 2013, the Yellow Jackets’ last meet, they had a very strong showing. A few school records were even broken by some DC individuals.
Freshman Micah Wilson (Mims, Fla. / Astronaut) now owns the fastest time for DC in the 60-meter dash in the history of the program. With a time of 8.12 seconds, she was able to capture the record in just her first meet as a collegiate sprinter. Wilson was also able to get the meet win in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.04
Eme Miller (Portland, Ind. / Jay County) is no stranger to distance or setting DC records and that proved the same last time out. The sophomore ran the 3,000-meter in 10:53.02 which was good enough for the school record and the meet win.
Rounding out the record setting day for the Yellow Jackets was Samantha Cook (Raiford, Fla. / Bradford County). The freshman tied the shot put record in just her first meet with a throw of 11.94 meters. That mark also helped the newcomer win the first event of her career.
The women’s 4 x 400-meter relay team of Margaret Sarfino, Waverly Weaks (Liberty Center, Ohio / Liberty Center), Brooke Lime (Defiance, Ohio / Defiance), and Kali George (East Palestine, Ohio / East Palestine) got the win in the relay event. They put together a time of 4:21.72.
George also won the long jump event with a jump of 5.15 meters.
The men's side also saw a few first place finishes in the meet. The one mile run is where they saw their greatest success of the meet. They were able to finish first, second and third. Joe Davis (Ontario, Ohio / Ontario) won the event with a time of 4:35.82. Madison Murphy (Westerville, Ohio / Thomas Washington) and Troy Parrett (Cedarville, Ohio / Cedarville) followed up with times of 4:39.16 and 4:45.64, respectively.
Freshman Jacob Rindler (St. Henry, Ohio / St. Henry) had a first successful collegiate meet. He won his first ever event with a 2:03.45 time in the 800-meter run.
Rindler, Davis, Murphy, and Parrett also teamed up to finish second in the 4 X 400-meter relay. They were able to put together a time of 3:33.89.
