Jones Finishes Second in High Jump at Dick Small Invitational

DEFIANCE, OHIO- The Defiance College men's track and field team hosted the Dick Small Invitational in the George M. Smart Center and placed eighth of nine teams.

In the running events, the men's 4x200 meter relay took second place with a time of 1:39.62. Teammates in the relay included freshmen Christ Beard (Anthony, Fla./North Marion), DeVonte' Cravin (Ama, La./Hahanville), Kendrick Harvey (Clearwater, Fla./Clearwater), and Vincent Lamonte (Norwalk). 

Beard placed 11th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25 seconds flat.

Sophomore Daren Gies (Plymouth) placed 14th in the one-mile run crossing the finish line in 5:09.32.

In the fielding events, senior Kenny Jones (Toledo/Bowsher) took second the the high jump with a leap of 5' 6.00". 

In shot put, senior Josh Ream (Van Wert/Crestview) placed ninth with a throw of 40' 3.50". Senior Nick Rath (Defiance) placed 13th (39' 1.75"). Sophomore Justin Bregquist (Cincinnati/Northwest) placed 15th (37' 5.00") and freshman Kaleb Tyree (Tiffin/Tiffin Colombian) finished 17th and had a toss of 36' 11.50". 

In the weight throw, sophomore Andrew Fahler (Wellington) took sixth place and had a throw of 43' 9.75". Ream followed right behind placing seventh with a mark of 43' 4.50". Sophomore James Baranoksi, Jr. (Bloomingdale) also placed in the top-ten with a tenth-place showing following a best throw of 39' 4.00". Bergquist and Rath went 15th and 16th with throws of 37' 2.25" and 36' 8.50," respectively. 

Members of the men's track & field team are scheduled to travel to Westerville, Ohio for the All-Ohio Track Championships tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 11) hosted by Otterbein University.  The meet is scheduled to begin at noon.
