Defiance Drops Pair at Anderson
ANDERSON, Ind. – Defiance could not play the spoiler role on Saturday, as the host Anderson Ravens bolstered their position for a possible bid in the upcoming HCAC Tournament with 5-0 and 15-9 victories over the Jackets to finish the series sweep.
Ethan Salsbury was solid in the opener for DC, as the freshman southpaw yielded eight hits and four earned runs in the complete game effort. Salsbury would take the loss however, as Defiance could not dent the scoreboard and managed only four hits in the 5-0 defeat.
The bats came alive for both sides in the series finale and the two teams combined for 24 runs on 30 hits in the 15-9 win for Anderson. The runs came in bunches with Defiance plating four runs in the third and fourth innings to build an 8-4 lead, only to see AU push eight runs across in the next two innings to go back in front, 12-8, and hold on for the win.
Keith Wade and Brad Rittner each went 2-4 at the plate and teamed to drive in five runs for Defiance. Braden Brugler drew a pair of walks and scored three times.
Defiance (6-28, 1-16 HCAC) will host Manchester on Tuesday in the final home game of the season for the Yellow Jackets. First pitch is slated for 4:00 pm.
