BEAVERTON, Ore. – DC’s Erica King was recognized as one of the top young NCAA Div. III women’s basketball players in the country with her recent selection to the D III-News All-Freshman Team. The Pettisville, Ohio native was one of 11 players in the nation to receive the distinction.

GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced its winter honorees for the Tom Bohlsen Academic All-HCAC Team on Wednesday, with Defiance placing seven student-athletes on the list. The seven award winners give DC five more than its 2009 winter total.

HANOVER, Ind. – Manchester avenged its first-round loss to Defiance in last season’s conference tournament by coming from 17 points behind to top the Jackets, 74-62, in the HCAC Tournament Quarterfinals on Friday evening. Defiance ends the season with a 12-14 overall record.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – On an afternoon that Defiance celebrated the accomplishments of its seniors, a freshman stole the show, posting a game-high 22 points to lead DC to a thrilling 83-81 victory over Franklin. The win puts Defiance at 12-13 overall and 10-8 in the conference to conclude the regular-season slate.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Courtney Schmersal would have preferred to do it in a winning effort, but nonetheless, the senior sharpshooter tied DC’s all-time record for three-point field goals made in a career, hitting three against the Pioneers to bump her career total up to 142. Defiance fell, 104-64, in the game.

N. MANCHESTER, Ind. – Manchester’s defense had held its opponents to 60.9 points per game and hadn’t allowed any opponent this season to score more than 77 points entering Thursday’s matchup with the Lady Jackets. Defiance bucked that trend, dropping 85 on the Spartans in an 85-76 road victory.

FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Lady Jackets have not won a game at Franklin College since joining the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference prior to the 2000-01 season, and that trend continued on Saturday afternoon, as DC dropped a 73-60 decision and fell into fifth place with a 4-4 mark in the conference.

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Lady Jackets picked up a crucial conference victory over the Lions of Mount St. Joseph on Saturday to move into a tie for fourth place with a 3-3 record in the HCAC.
