GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced its fall honorees for the Tom Bohlsen Academic All-HCAC Team with Defiance placing 20 student-athletes on the list. The 20 award winners give DC five more than its 2009 total and seven more than 2008.

GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced its Fall All-Sportsmanship Team on Thursday, with eight Yellow Jackets making the list. The award is part of the HCAC’s sportsmanship initiative.

GREENWOOD, Ind. – DC’s senior goalkeeper, Kelly Coble, and freshman forward, Karly Smith, were honored by the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference on Tuesday as all-conference performers. Both players were placed on the Second-Team All-HCAC list, voted on by the conference’s 10 head coaches.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Melissa Alston got her Senior Day off to a good start with a goal in the 14th minute of the opening period to give Defiance a 1-0 lead, but a second-half rally by Rose-Hulman resulted in a 2-1 loss for the Yellow Jackets. DC ends the season in seventh place with a 2-5-2 conference record.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The men’s and women’s soccer teams will host Rose-Hulman tomorrow afternoon, in what will be their final games of the 2010 season. Defiance will honor its seniors during halftime of both games, as they take the pitch for the last time as a member of the Yellow Jacket soccer program.

BLUFFTON, Ohio – The Yellow Jackets fell behind, 2-0, on two own goals in the first half, but rallied to outscore Bluffton by two goals in the second half and force overtime. Neither team would score through two overtime periods, as the teams finished in a 2-2 draw after 110 minutes of play.

BLUFFTON, Ohio – With high winds, thunderstorms and a tornado warning in the area, the Bluffton University and Defiance College soccer teams have decided to postpone their games for one day. The women’s teams will play on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m., and the men will play on Thursday at 4:00 p.m.

CINCINNATI, Ohio – A late goal by Karly Smith was not enough for the Lady Jackets on Saturday afternoon, as they fell to seventh place in the HCAC with a 3-1 loss at Mount St. Joseph. With the loss, Defiance drops to 2-4-1 in the conference, and is now mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Lady Jackets hung tough with the top team in the conference on Tuesday evening, but could not get any points on the board as they fell, 2-0, to the Earlham College Quakers. Defiance drops to 2-3-1 in the HCAC with the loss, and remains in fifth place with three games remaining.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Defiance’s defense has been one of the best in the HCAC this season, and entered the game allowing just one goal per game to opponents, but Transylvania’s offense was too much for the Yellow Jackets on Saturday. DC fell, 7-2, to the Pioneers, and dropped to 2-2-1 in the HCAC.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Lady Jackets pulled off their second shutout in three games, and their third of the season, as they defeated Manchester, 2-0, on Tuesday. With just five games remaining on the regular season schedule, Defiance is in the middle of the playoff race with a 2-1-1 record in the HCAC.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College fans who wear black to the Yellow Jackets’ soccer matches against Manchester College on Tuesday and Wednesday will receive a free McDonald’s Big Mac coupon courtesy of the Defiance College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Lady Jackets earned their third tie of the season on Saturday, and moved to 1-1-1 in the HCAC, with a 1-1 draw against Franklin College.  Defiance now sits alone at fifth place in the conference with one third of its conference contests completed.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The start of an exciting new era for DC was ushered in on Friday as 18 shovels officially broke ground on a highly anticipated field house. The ceremony highlighted a busy 2010 Homecoming weekend and signaled the start of the Defiance College Athletic Center project.

DETROIT – The Defiance College women’s soccer team ended on the winning side of a 1-0 decision against Marygrove College (3-6) on Tuesday evening. DC Goalkeeper, Kelly Coble, earned her second shutout of the season, while bumping her conference-high saves total up to 80.

HANOVER, Ind. – The women’s soccer team was tagged with its first conference loss of the season on Saturday, as the fell, 1-0, to Hanover College (6-4-1, 2-0 HCAC). DC was unable to score against the HCAC’s stingiest defense, which entered the game with a conference-best .80 goals against average.

TIFFIN, Ohio – The women’s soccer team did a fine job of containing the Heidelberg offense, but could not crack the Student Princes’ defense as they fell, 1-0, in the non-conference showdown Tuesday night. Defiance falls to 2-4-2 overall this season with the loss.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The women’s soccer team overcame an early deficit to defeat Anderson University, 2-1, in their first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match of the season. Freshman forward, Karly Smith, got the game-winner for Defiance with her first-career collegiate goal.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Lady Jackets came up just short against a talented Alma College squad on Wednesday evening. A late goal by Alma’s Elaine Cunningham gave the Scots the 2-1 victory, and dropped the Jackets to 1-3-2 on the season.

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – The Lady Jackets picked up their second 1-1 tie in as many games on Saturday, when they played 110 minutes of soccer against the Warriors of Rochester College that ended in a draw. With one week until their first HCAC matchup of the season, the Jackets are now 1-2-2 overall.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The women’s soccer team battled it out for 110 minutes against Trine University on Tuesday, before walking away with a 1-1 draw and a 1-2-1 overall record. DC’s Kelly Coble notched 10 saves in goal for Defiance, but Trine’s Kate Wegert matched with nine of her own to force the tie.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Lady Jackets found themselves in a 2-0 hole 14 minutes into the first period, and went down 3-0 early in the second half before rallying with two quick goals to cut the deficit to one with 10 minutes remaining. Marietta hung on to defeat Defiance, 3-2, and drop the Jackets to 1-2 on the season.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Lady Jackets picked up their first win of the season on Saturday, as they shutout Waynesburg University, 2-0, in their second game of the Defiance College Classic. The Lady Jackets improve to 1-1 on the season with the victory.

DEFIANCE, Ohio - An impressive effort ended with a disappointing result on Friday, when a late goal by Greenville’s Abby Freesmeier handed the Lady Jackets their first loss of the season. Defiance outshot Greenville 15-8 in the game, but could not find the net despite some promising opportunities.

GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference released its 2010 Women’s Soccer Preseason Poll on Tuesday, which had Defiance slated eighth in the rankings, and listed four Lady Jackets as Preseason Players-to-Watch.
