Jace Neal is the lone senior on the men's golf team and a four-year letterwinner who has played in every spring round DC has played over the past three years.
Now is your chance to get to know Jace Neal away from the links, as we go beyond the box score with the senior golfer.
20 Questions With Jace Neal
1-When did you start playing golf? I started playing golf around the age of seven but had the game of golf introduced to me at the age of three.
2-What has been the highlight of your athletic career so far? I would have to say finishing ninth overall at last year's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships, finishing second at the OSU-Marion Invitational and earning All-Tournament Team twice at the Jon Spiess Memorial Tournament.
3-What are your goals for the remainder of the 2011 season? To finish in the top eight at the HCAC Championships in order to earn All-HCAC honors and to finish well in the team standings.
4-Who is your funniest teammate? All of them. If I had to narrow it down, it would probably be Jared James or Brian Jones.
5-Do you have any nicknames? None.
6-What three words best describe you? Determined, committed, passionate.
7-What is your favorite restaurant? Golden Corral.
8-Who is your biggest hero? Coming from a small family, I would have to say my heroes would be my parents. They have always been there for support throughout my life. They have been a great source of knowledge and have been there to set examples for success. They are my role models, mentors, teachers and financial advisors, so they are definitely special to me and my life.
9-Dream vacation spot? My dream vacation spot would probably have to be Hawaii, or some tropical destination where there are beaches and golf courses.
10-What is the top song currently on your iPod? There are too many to choose from.
11-Who was your childhood sports hero? Phil Mickelson.
12-Do you have any superstitions or pre-round routines? My pre-round routine is to get plenty of shots on the driving range and putting green in order to get a feel for the conditions of the golf course we are playing. My superstitions are to do the same pre-round routine because I would feel different otherwise.
13-If you could trade places with anyone for one day, who would it be? I would probably have to say any professional golfer in order to see what kind of time and effort they put into their games to finish the best that they can. They get to travel the world playing some of the best golf courses on the planet. That would be an awesome experience.
14-What is your favorite TV show? "SportsCenter", "Ghost Hunters", "Pickers", or "Pawn Stars". I am not too picky on my television shows.
15-What is something most people do not know about you? I am ambidextrous.
16-What is your biggest fear? Heights.
17-Besides your own, what is your favorite sport to watch at Defiance? It would be between football and basketball.
18-What is your favorite class or professor at DC and why? I would have to say classes with Dr. Knueve or Prof. Sondergaard. They both make the classroom setting entertaining and interesting. They go out of their way so that students can succeed, not only in the classroom but in life after college.
19-What are your plans after graduating from DC? To get a job with a local law enforcement agency in order to attend the police academy and find a position as a police officer. I hope to get a graduate degree sometime in the future as well.
20-How has playing collegiate athletics at DC helped you in life? Playing collegiate athletics has been a great experience because of the relationships you build on and off the playing field. It teaches you to work with other people to reach a goal which is a valuable tool to take into a career after college. It also teaches you to overcome obstacles and to believe in yourself to become a successful person in life.
