STARKVILLE, Miss. – Defiance College standout outfielder, Marah Robinson, has been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Div. III Central Region Second Team.  She was one of three players from the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference to be selected to the first or second team.

GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced its spring honorees for the Tom Bohlsen Academic All-HCAC Team. Defiance College placed 13 student-athletes on the list, raising its total for the 2009-2010 academic year to 30.

GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced its 2010 All-Sportsmanship Team for the spring sports on Wednesday. The award is part of the league-wide initiative to promote good sportsmanship.

GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference released its list of 2010 softball award winners on Wednesday, with three Yellow Jackets receiving recognition. Marah Robinson and Tasha Stucke were placed on the All-HCAC First Team, while Kelly Schnipke received honorable mention.

GREENWOOD, Ind. – DC’s Shauna Bowers wrapped up her sophomore campaign by earning her first career HCAC Pitcher-of-the-Week award. Bowers received the accolade after posting a 2-0 record with a 0.50 earned run average in the Jackets’ wins over Rose-Hulman and Manchester College last week.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – With two outs and a runner on second base in the bottom of the ninth inning, Tasha Stucke ripped a walk-off double to the right field wall, giving the Yellow Jackets a 4-3 victory over Manchester College, and their seventh-straight season to finish with at least a .500 overall record.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Defiance College softball team kept its postseason hopes alive by splitting a doubleheader with Rose-Hulman on Tuesday evening. The Jackets lost a defensive showdown, 1-0, in game one, before turning around to blast the Fightin’ Engineers, 8-0, in the nightcap.

GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference named Kelly Schnipke the Pitcher of the Week for April 18-24, after she posted a 2-0 record and allowed no earned runs on the week in DC’s wins over Adrian College and Mount St. Joseph.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Defiance College softball team’s doubleheader at Rose-Hulman, originally scheduled to take place today, has been rescheduled for Tuesday, April 27, due to rain. Game one of the doubleheader on Tuesday is set for 5:00 p.m.

DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Defiance College softball team got seven shutout innings from Kelly Schnipke to take a 7-0 victory over Adrian in the first of two games on Thursday. Adrian responded in game two however, taking an 11-0 win in five innings. Defiance moves to 16-16 on the season with the split.

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Defiance College softball team, who has been a fixture in the HCAC tournament since joining the conference in 2000, greatly jeopardized its chances of making this year’s tournament by splitting a doubleheader against Mount St. Joseph on Saturday, April 17.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Defiance College softball team dropped to 4-6 in conference play with a pair of losses at league-leading Transylvania on Friday, April 16. The team was shutout, 2-0, in the first game before falling, 10-5, in the second contest.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Yellow Jackets’ softball team fell to 14-12 on the season Tuesday night, with back-to-back losses to Denison University (17-11). Defiance dropped the first game, 8-7, in extra innings, before suffering a 10-5 loss in the nightcap.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The DC softball team posted two crucial wins against Hanover College on Friday evening, beating the Panthers 9-5 in the first contest and 7-1 in the nightcap. The two victories move the Jackets to 4-4 in HCAC play, and into a tie for fourth place in the conference with Anderson University.

ADA, Ohio – The DC softball team gave No. five Ohio Northern (21-1) all they could handle on Wednesday, April 7, losing 7-4 in the first game before dropping a nail-biter, 6-5, in the nightcap. Defiance, who remains in fifth-place in the HCAC, drops to 12-10 on the season.

GREENWOOD, Ind. – DC’s Brittany Gow posted her second complete-game shutout of the season on Saturday, March 27. For her efforts, Gow has been honored as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for March 22-28.

ANDERSON, Ind. – The Lady Jackets took part in their first conference competition of the season on Saturday, March 27, with a doubleheader in Anderson, Ind. Defiance dropped the first game, 8-5, before bouncing back to shut out the Ravens, 3-0, in the second contest.

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Defiance College softball team struggled to find an offensive rhythm on Wednesday, March 24, managing just one run in two games against Trine University. The offensive woes resulted in two losses, dropping DC to 10-4 on the season.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Elizabeth Petrie has been selected by the Defiance College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as the first-ever winner of the SAAC Sportsmanship Award. The new honor is part of the NCAA’s ongoing Respect Campaign and will be announced every two weeks throughout the remainder of the spring semester.

STARKVILLE, Miss. – After posting a 7-1 record during their Florida road trip to start the season, the DC softball team has been ranked 30th in the country according to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Poll released on Wednesday. DC has now appeared on the poll in three out of four weeks this season.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The DC softball team took care of business in its home opener against Div. II University of Findlay on Wednesday, March 17. The Jackets beat the Oilers 15-8 in the series opener, before using an extra inning to pull out a 4-3 victory in the second contest, and improve to 9-1 on the season.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – With a 7-1 start to the season under their belts, the Jackets are set to open the home slate with contests against Findlay on Wednesday, and Albion on Saturday. The Saturday showdown is a chance for fans to “Take Your Dog to the Ballgame” in support of the local Humane Society.

ORLANDO, Fla. –The Defiance College softball team’s Florida road trip was cut short on Thursday, as their games against Waldorf College and the University of Dubuque were canceled due to rain. The team will return home after posting a 7-1 record to begin the season.

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Defiance College softball team (7-1) improved their winning streak to five games on Wednesday, thumping Chatham, 11-1, and Westminster, 4-1, to move past last year’s squad and claim the best start to a season the program has seen since joining the HCAC in 2000.

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Defiance College softball team got their 2010 season off to go a good start by sweeping Centre College, 2-0, in their season opener in Danville, Ky., on Friday night. The Jackets won 6-3 in game one before knocking off the Colonels, 9-7, in the nightcap.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The DC softball team made waves on Tuesday, becoming the first team in the history of the program to receive votes in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Preseason Poll. The Jackets are ranked 27th in the nation, and were the only team in the HCAC to make the poll.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College athletics department and head softball coach Jodie Holava are pleased to announce the addition of Amber Jack as the newest member of the Yellow Jackets’ coaching staff. Jack will serve as a graduate assistant for the softball team while pursuing a master’s degree in education.

GREENWOOD, Ind. – The HCAC Preseason Softball Poll was released on Wednesday. Defiance was picked third in the poll, garnering 60 total points, trailing only Transylvania (79) and Bluffton (70) for the top spot. The Yellow Jackets also had five players named to the HCAC Preseason Players-to-Watch list.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Local softball players are invited to get a jump on the 2010 spring season by joining the Defiance College softball team in their eighth annual Winter Clinic Series. The Clinic will be held on Sunday, February 14, 2010, inside the Karl H. Weaner Center on the campus of Defiance College.

TOLEDO, Ohio – The DC softball team continued its tradition of participating in the annual Northwest Ohio Make-A-Wish Holiday Party at Springfield High School in Toledo on Sunday, November 15. This marks the third-consecutive year the softball team has helped host the party.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The DC softball team volunteered to help the Defiance County Humane Society with several projects on Saturday, October 24. The team split into several groups and assisted in landscaping, grooming, dog walking, photography and distributing information about the animals.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Seven members of the Defiance College softball team were named NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes for the 2008-09 academic school year. The individual honor, which requires a minimum of a 3.5 grade point average for the year, was given to Lisa Brophy, Kayla Crager, Justine Johnston, Elizabeth Petrie, Aubrie Ridinger, Kelly Schnipke and Kelsey Williams. The girls collectively posted a 3.72 GPA.

DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Defiance College softball team volunteered at the Ohio Special Olympics Softball Tournament on Saturday, September 19. Members of the team assisted in running various skills stations for the athletes, including fielding, hitting, base running and throwing.

DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Defiance College athletic department would like to remind its baseball and softball alumni that each program will be hosting an alumni game on Saturday as part of the 2009 Homecoming Weekend. Batting practice for each game will begin at 9:00 am, with the games beginning at 10:00 am and leading up to the DC football game with Manchester at 1:30 pm.

WAPAKONETA, Ohio – The Defiance College softball team won the Red, White and Blue Collegiate Classic on Saturday, September 26. The Yellow Jackets went 2-1 on the day, claiming victories over Ohio Wesleyan and Findlay University.
