DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College softball team recently spent time volunteering at the Special Olympics Regional Softball Tournament. Twenty players and coaches put in over 50 hours of work at the event. It marked the fourth straight year that members of the squad spent a day working with Special Olympic athletes in a variety of skills stations including fielding, hitting, baserunning and throwing. The team escorted athletes through the stations and awarded medals to the participants. The day of service was nothing out of the ordinary for Defiance College student-athletes, as throughout the 2010-2011 academic year, the DC athletics program contributed nearly 3,000 hours of service. <><><><> |
