TIFFIN, Ohio – The Yellow Jacket softball team traveled to Heidelberg University on Wednesday afternoon for a double header in Tiffin, Ohio. DC was unable to pick up a victory in either game, losing game one 7-1 and game two by a score of 6-2.
The Jackets’ offense was stifled by Heidelberg pitcher Lexie Pinkelman, who tossed a three hit complete game against DC. Pinkelman also managed to strikeout nine Defiance batters over seven innings. The bright spot in game one for the Purple and Gold offense was sophomore Stephanie Esquibel who provided two of the team’s three base knocks.
The Jacket defense also struggled in game one, as the defense accounted for three errors. These errors led to two unearned runs.
Defiance’s bats were much better in game two of the doubleheader. DC totaled nine hits in the game but was unfortunate to plate only two runs. Elizabeth Huffman had a stellar game as the senior went 3-3 at the dish and had one of the two DC runs batted in.
The Yellow Jacket defense was not able to produce better results in game two. The Jackets accrued three errors for the second time of the afternoon, allowing three unearned runs.

Defiance’s next game is on Saturday, March 24 at Defiance against Transylvania. The game will be the Jackets’ first home game of the season and their conference opener. The game is scheduled to begin at noon.
