DEFIANCE, OHIO - Defiance College is pleased to announce the promotion of head baseball coach, Derek Woodley, as the interim assistant athletic director for the 2017-18 school year.
"We are excited to have Coach Woodley step up in this leadership role. He has a great deal of experience and commitment to DC athletics. His eagerness will undoubtedly make an immediate positive impact in athletics," said interim athletic director Jodie Holava.
Woodley is no stranger to the role as he served as the co-interim athletic director for the Yellow Jackets during the 2009-2010 school year. Before coming to Defiance, Woodly served as the athletic director at Bethany Lutheran for two full years and the intramural director.
Woodley will also remain head baseball coach for 2018 where he enters his 11th season. The 2013 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Co-Coach of the Year is the third coach in program history to surpass 50 career wins.
In his 10 season with DC, Woodley has seen 53 DC players named to the All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Team, while also placing 17 student-athletes on the HCAC All-Academic squad.
As a part of his an extensive coaching background, Woodley worked as a part-time scout for the St. Louis Cardinals from 2000-2004 and served as a coach in the Northwoods League for the Mankato Mashers and Mankato Moondogs from 2000-2003.
