DEFIANCE, OHIO – Freshman Milus Sutton (Cincinnati/Harrison) and sophomore Jacob Carriveau (Clio, Mich.) tallied goals to lead men's soccer past Bethany, 2-0, on the final day of the Purple and Gold Classic at the Matthew Winsper Knobel Memorial Soccer Field.
The Yellow Jackets (2-0 overall) wasted no time getting on the board as Sutton capitalized on a corner kick in the 2nd minute to claim the early 1-0 advantage. Defiance continued to pressure the Bethany back line as freshman Jarren Casto (Celina) and Carriveau both fired-off on goal shots in the final minutes of play. DC finished the half with 10 shots, four of which were on goal.
Defiance opened the second half on the attack as Carriveau sent a shot sailing just wide of the net in the 46th minute. Bethany responded with back-to-back shots of their own that were saved by the DC keeper, junior Clay Musgrave (Upper Sandusky). In the 78th minute, senior Christian Meister (Ontario) headed a ball in the box for the Yellow Jackets that landed in the hands of the keeper. Defiance delivered the games final blow in the 90th minute as Carriveau broke away from the pack and found the back of the net.
Defiance finished the contest with 15 shots, six of which were on goal. Musgrave moved to 2-0 in frame, recording five saves.
The Yellow Jackets return to action Wednesday, Sept. 6 as they welcome Trine to the Matthew Winsper Knobel Memorial Field. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
