HANOVER, IND. - The Hanover Panthers pounced the Yellow Jackets in the second half to capture the 3-2 win on Saturday afternoon in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action at the HC Athletic Complex.
Defiance (6-8-2 overall, 2-5-0 HCAC) found themselves trailing early in the first half before freshman Maxwell Alvarado (Muncie, Ind./Burris Laboratory) delivered the equalizer in the 42nd minute to tie the contest 1-1.
The Yellow Jackets continued to pressure the box in the final minutes firing off back-to-back shots that went unanswered.
The Panthers responded in the second half registering goals in the 47th and 50th minute to extend their lead 3-1.
However, the Purple and Gold rallied once more as freshman Liam Hall (Oak Harbor) tallied his fifth goal of the season to cut the deficit to 3-2. Defiance continued on the attack late in the game as they peppered the net, including a shot by senior Andrew Brown (Englewood/Northmont) that hit the post and a shot by senior Sean Daley (Lima/Central Catholic) that was saved by the HC back line.
Defiance finished the contest with 10 shots, led by Hall with three.
Junior Clay Musgrave (Upper Sandusky) led the Yellow Jackets in frame recording six saves through 90 minutes of work.
The Purple and Gold return to action Wednesday, October 25 when they play host to Anderson. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
