Men's Soccer Falls at Olivet By Way of Second Half Goal

OLIVET, MICH. - The Defiance College men's soccer team traveled to Olivet College on Wednesday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets fell to the Comets 2-1 after a fairly even matchup.

The two sides matched up well as they each created chances throughout the match. Olivet held a slight advantage in the shots category as they led 15-9. Defensively Clay Musgrave (Upper Sandusky / Upper Sandusky) was forced into eight saves, while the Comet net-minder made seven of his own.

Olivet broke through first as their goalscorer, Alistair Law, found the back of Musgrave's net in the 14th minute. It did not take long for the Yellow Jackets to strike back as Christian Meister (Ontario / Ontario) scored by way of an assist from Luca DeMartino (Mequon, Wisc. / Homestead). Meister's goal brings his 2018 tally to three, while DeMartino earned his first assist of the campaign. The second half saw similar action as the two sides battled for a potential game winner. The Comets broke the deadlock in the 71st minute to take a 2-1 lead. Defiance was able to get one more shot on frame, but was unable to equalize the match, ultimately losing the tightly battled contest 2-1.

The loss brings the Yellow Jacket record to 1-4. The side will next be in action Sunday, Sept. 16th at Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field as they host Mount Union at 4:00 pm.
