Yellow Jackets Rolled 8-1 in Loss to DeSales

HILTON HEAD, S. C. – The Defiance College women's tennis team wrapped up their time in Hilton Head, South Carolina at the Spring Tennis Fest as well as their 2017-18 season on Thursday afternoon with an 8-1 loss to DeSales University, putting them at 3-16 on the season

The Purple and Gold suffered a sweep in the doubles flight, putting them down 3-0 early. Hannah Hesterman and Cayla Walker were defeated 8-4 while AJ Breneman and Sydney Huston dropped No. 2 8-2. Duo Mackenzie Combs and Chelsey Braunwart would also go on to drop their flight at third doubles 8-2.

In singles action, Walker was the lone Yellow Jackets to score a victory, taking third singles 7-5, 6-3. At first singles, Hesterman dropped her match in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 while Breneman was outlasted 6-0, 6-4 at second singles. Combs was rolled 6-0, 6-1 at fourth singles as Huston was defeated 6-1, 6-1 at fifth singles. Braunwart would finish the match with a 6-2, 7-6 (8-6 tie break) at sixth singles.

The women's tennis team concludes their season with a 3-16 record, 1-6 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action.
