Defiance Sweeps Through First Day of Sheridan Tournament
OAKVILLE, Ontario – Defiance headed north of the border this weekend to compete in the Sheridan Tournament in Ontario, Canada. The Jackets had little trouble on the opening day of action, dispatching Canadore and Redeemer in straight sets. The matches were played in a best-of-three format but Defiance only needed two to get past Canadore in the opening match. DC scored the 25-8, 25-18 victory behind 15 kills and a .609 hitting percentage from the duo of Danyel Lipps and Sara Porter. Lipps also added a trio of service aces and Heather Bradshaw led the squad with seven digs. The solid play carried over to the second match, where the Jackets bounced Redeemer, 25-14, 25-11 for the sweep. Porter topped DC with 11 kills in 21 swings, while Lipps and Kristen Nicely combined for 12 kills. DC will close out pool play at 10:00 am on Saturday when it takes on Georgian. The Jackets will then advance to the championship bracket beginning at 11:30 am, where their next opponent will be determined based on seeding. ##### |
