Lipps Nets HCAC Player-of-the-Week Honors
GREENWOOD, Ind. – Danyel Lipps led Defiance College to a pair of key HCAC victories and has been selected as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week. Lipps logged double-doubles in each victory and helped the Yellow Jackets move into a tie for first place in the league standings.
Lipps averaged 4.14 kills, 3.71 digs, 0.86 blocks and 0.71 service aces per set, while hitting at a .276 clip to lead DC past Transylvania and Rose-Hulman. The wins extended the Jackets’ current win streak to three straight over conference foes and clinched a berth in the HCAC Tournament.
Lipps opened the weekend with a flawless effort against the Pioneers in which she smacked down 14 kills without a miscue for a .467 percentage and added 13 digs and four aces for her 10th double-double of the season. The junior outside hitter then collected her 11th double-double and filled the stat sheet with 15 kills, 13 digs, six blocks and one ace in DC’s win over Rose-Hulman on Sunday.
The HCAC honor is the first for Lipps in her three-year career at Defiance and is the third time this season that a Yellow Jacket has garnered the award.
Lipps and the Jackets will play their final home match of the 2008 regular season when they host Manchester on Tuesday night at 7:30 pm. Defiance will take the court looking to keep its hopes alive in the race for the 2008 HCAC Championship.
