Defiance Extends Streak to Seven with Pair of Victories
GAMBIER, Ohio – The Defiance College volleyball team scored wins over Allegheny and Kenyon on Saturday to push its current win streak to seven-straight contests and to record the fourth 20-win season in the seven-year tenure of head coach David Kwan.
The Yellow Jackets improved to 120-95 during the Kwan era with a 25-20, 18-25, 25-19, 25-18 win against Allegheny and a 25-14, 26-24, 25-16 victory in their match with Kenyon.
A pair of Jackets hit milestones on Saturday, as Marlea Rolander eclipsed the 200-kill and 100-block plateau’s for the 2009 season, while Sarah Porter posted a pair of double-digit dig totals to move past the 300-dig barrier for the third-straight year.
Danyel Lipps paced DC in its four-set win against Allegheny by notching 13 kills, seven digs and an ace, while Rolander swatted 11 kills and two blocks and Porter combined with Heather Bradshaw to scoop 22 digs.
Rolander and Jessica Tietje dominated Kenyon in the second match of the day, as Rolander ripped the Ladies for 11 kills in 13 swings and Tietje hit .421 to go with nine kills and a pair of blocks. Porter also continued her strong play with 10 digs and two blocks.
Defiance moved to 20-9 with the two victories and will have the next week off, before returning to action for its Senior Day on Sunday, November 1. DC will look for its eighth-straight win overall and its fourth-straight Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference win when it hosts Franklin in a 12:00 pm contest.
