Jackets Sweep Oberlin, Fall to Westminster at Kilt Classic
WOOSTER, Ohio – Defiance College picked up its third win in its last five outings on the volleyball court on Friday, with a straight-set victory over Oberlin in DC’s first match of the Wooster Kilt Classic. The Jackets could complete the sweep however, falling in five to Westminster in the nightcap.
Defiance had little trouble in the opener, discarding Oberlin (1-10) 25-16, 25-17, 25-22 behind 10 kills from Sara Porter. Chelsea Ludeman added six kills on a .416 attack percentage, Kelsey Ferguson tossed up 19 assists and Heather Bradshaw added seven digs in the victory.
The Jackets then suffered a grueling five-set loss to Westminster (5-6), falling 25-21, 25-27, 27-25, 20-25, 15-13. Ludeman stayed hot with a career-best 20 kills, while Marlea Rolander added 15. Porter also played well once again with nine kills, 19 digs and two aces, while Christa Seidenstricker shredded Westminster for six aces and Ferguson added 35 more assists.
Defiance (3-8) will play two more matches on Saturday, as it gets things started with Capital (6-6) at 10:30 am, before taking on Wooster (6-6) at 1:30 pm.
