DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College volleyball team won their first match against Marygrove College, 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-17), but fell in the championship of the DC Invite to Siena Heights University, 3-1 (25-20, 19-25, 19-25, 10-25).

In game one, the Jackets were led by senior Jessica Tietje, who posted nine kills on 18 attempts. Senior Marlea Rolander added five kills on the offensive end, and four total blocks on defense. Freshman Alicia Kalik provided the offense with a team-best 22 assists. Sophomore Christa Seidenstricker paced the Jackets with seven digs.

In game two, Tietje led the attack again with nine kills. Sophomore Chelsea Ludeman chipped in with seven kills. Kalik directed the team with 25 assists, and freshman Jill Turner posted seven digs to pace the defensive effort.

At the conclusion of the tournament, Rolander, Seidenstricker and Kalik were honored with all-tournament team selections.

The Jackets will take the court next on September 16, when they travel to the Centre College Tournament in Danville, Kentucky.
