PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Defiance College volleyball team dropped two tough matches on day two of the Carnegie Mellon Invitational to Mount Union, 3-1 (12-25, 25-20, 14-25, 14-25) and DeSales, 3-0 (17-25, 25-27, 19-25).

Against Mount Union, it was senior Jessica Tietje that led the offense with eight kills. Freshman Alicia Kalik distributed 26 assists. Defensively, freshman Jill Turner set the tone with 11 digs, while sophomore Alexis Pierce added four blocks.

In game two, Tietje led Defiance with 11 kills, while Kalik again paced theYellow Jackets with 30 assists. Turner was the catalyst for the defense with 16 digs, and senior Marlea Rolander had four blocks in the effort. Rolander set the Defiance College record for block assists during a career in the match. Her 43rd block assist of the season gives her 274 block assists in her career, which betters the mark of 273 set by Jeannie West.

Defiance ends the tournament with a 2-2 mark.

The next action for the Yellow Jackets will be on Wednesday, September 28th when they travel to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Earlham. Match time is slated for 7:00 pm.
