DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College women’s basketball team recently spent a day working with Habitat for Humanity in Defiance.

The team split into several work groups, helping in various areas of the home.  As a whole the team helped with the roofing of the house, while also putting on siding and setting up cabinets inside the home’s kitchen.

The women’s basketball team has also been active on the campus of Defiance College, taking roles in leadership and service initiatives. Amber Bailey and Katie Carunchia are a Bonner Leaders, while Holly Stein is currently serving as a DC Citizen Leader.

The Lady Jackets’ community service is not uncommon at Defiance College. During the 2007-08 academic year, Defiance College student-athletes contributed more than 2,300 hours of community service in their community and around the country.

Defiance College has been recognized repeatedly for its efforts in community service and U.S. News & World Report named DC among the top tier of comprehensive baccalaureate colleges in the Midwest. Defiance was also featured for excellence in blending academics with community work by The Princeton Review in its Colleges with a Conscience: 81 Great Schools with Outstanding Community Involvement.
