DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College women’s golf team will host the 2011 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Championships on Saturday and Sunday at Eagle Rock Golf Club. Action is set to begin at 9:00 am on each day of the 36-hole tournament.

The Eagle Rock Golf Club is located in Defiance, Ohio and will provide a beautiful 5,772 yard par-71 setting for the eight HCAC squads to compete on. The top-eight individual finishers will earn All-HCAC honors.

Hanover won the team title last year by placing three of its competitors on the All-HCAC Team. The Panthers’ two-day total of 667 was 16 strokes better than second-place Transylvania and 26 shots lower than Franklin’s third-place score.

Defiance fired an 803 for its best score at the HCAC Championship since restarting the program in 2006, but ended 20 shots shy of Manchester for seventh place. Sarah Westfall paced the Jackets with a top-25 effort in her first HCAC Championship event and will look to lead DC at the tournament once again, after posting the team’s lowest score in four-of-six events this fall.

Westfall is joined in Defiance’s projected lineup by senior Tara Miller and juniors Kelly Beard, Phoenix Golnick and Taylor Tuttle. If that lineup holds, it would mark only the third time this year that DC’s top-five golfers have competed at the same event and the first time since the Spiess Memorial on September 13.

DC’s projected starting five has posted an average round of 391 this season, which would put the Jackets in contention for a top-six spot and on track for their strongest finish in the HCAC Championships since reinstating the program.
