DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College soccer program will host its annual DC Classic on August 29-31 at Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field.  The women’s tournament will feature three teams, Defiance College, Mount Union College and Oberlin College.

Each team will play two matches over the course of the weekend, as Oberlin College will take on Defiance to kick off the women’s tournament on Friday, August 29 at 5:00 p.m. On Saturday, Mount Union will face Oberlin at 3:00 p.m., while Defiance and Mount Union will finish up the tournament with their match at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 31.

Defiance comes into the 2008 campaign a year removed from tying the school record for wins in a season, after going 8-9 in 2007. The Jackets will be led by the senior duo of Kaitlin Monberg and Sarah Plas, who were each named to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player-to-Watch list earlier this month. Monberg enters the 2008 season, tallying seven goals and six assists over the course of her career from her midfield position. Plas, a two-time All-HCAC Second Team selection, will anchor a DC defense that recorded six shutouts in 2007.

Mount Union embarks on the 2008 season with its top two scorers from a year ago, after finishing 3-13-2 in 2007. The Purple Raiders are led by 2007 All-Ohio Athletic Conference Honorable Mention forward Deirdre Dick, who finished last season with 12 points (5g, 2a) as a freshman. Sophomore Christin Handley also returns, after scoring two goals from her midfield position last season.

Oberlin, coming off a 3-13-1 in 2007, is led by senior forward Joelle Sesar. The two-time All-North Coast Athletic Conference honorable mention selection led the Yeowomen in scoring last season with four goals. Sophomore midfielder Lois Immerman also returns, after scoring two goals during her freshman campaign.
