DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College women’s soccer team defeated Rochester College by a score of 2-1 for its second win of the season. The win raises the Lady Yellow Jackets’ record to 2-5.

The match began with both teams sharing close to equal possession and having a few good looks at goal.

In the 33rd minute freshman forward Alicia Ledford played a perfect through ball to junior Katie Heitkamp, who had her shot carom off the keeper and into the goal. The goal marks Heitkamp’s team leading second goal of the season.

DC could not hold onto its lead for long as the Warriors equalized the game at one goal apiece only five minutes later. Emily Guirey sped past a Yellow Jacket defender and placed her shot past the keeper to tie the game heading into the halftime break.

During the first 40 minutes of the second half both teams had some great scoring opportunities but neither was able to find the go ahead goal.

In the 86th minute however, sophomore midfielder Karly Smith was brought down in the box by a Warrior defender, resulting in a penalty kick. Sophomore midfielder Bibiana Parra stepped up to the spot and calmly slid it past the keeper giving Defiance the victory.

Defiance is next in action on Saturday, September 24 as it travels to Anderson University to open up Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play at 3:00 p.m.
