Lady Jackets Explode For Four Goals in Victory at Muskingum
9/15/2012 | New Concord, OH | Attendance: 110
NEW CONCORD, Ohio – One day removed from a total drought of offense at Capital where the DC women’s soccer team couldn’t produce a single shot at goal, it responded with a 20 shot outburst on Muskingum that led to an impressive 4-2 road victory on Saturday, September 15.
The Yellow Jackets came out firing away, as they racked up four shots and three corner kicks in the first 15 minutes of the match. It was a complete turn-around from the offensive output in their previous game.
Defiance kept attacking throughout the first period and finally broke the Muskingum defense when sophomore Lindsay Bubnick scorched a goal from 35 yards out for her second of the year. This gave the Jackets the early 1-0 advantage.
DC was about to head into half with the lead, but then with less than one minute left in the first period, defensive lapses critically hurt the squad as they gave up a pair of goals in a span of 24 seconds to fall behind 2-1 at the break.
The team came together and regrouped during the intermission. The last minute mishaps did not get to them, as the Jackets got things straightened out and came out focused to dominate the second half.
Just eight minutes into the period, sophomore Maegan Redick notched her first score of the season to knot the game up at 2. The momentum was now back in DC’s hands as it kept a constant attack on the Muskies.
Then in the 68th minute, clutch freshman Erica Islas scored the third goal in her young career to put Defiance back on top at 3-2. On the season, all three of Islas’s goals have either been to tie the game or take the lead.
Less than six minutes later, DC sealed the deal when Bibiana Parra drained a penalty kick for her first goal on the year to put the Jackets up 4-2, and that score would hold up as the team evened its record to 2-2-2, while the Muskies drop to 2-4.
The Defiance Lady Jackets turn right around to host a match against Oberlin on Monday, September 17 at Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field. The game is slated for 4 p.m.
