DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College and the Ohio Athletic Conference recently announced that the Yellow Jackets would join the OAC for the 2011-2012 year as an associate member for the sport of swimming and diving.

Defiance will bring the number of swimming and diving programs in the OAC to six, giving the Purple and Gold the opportunity to compete for a conference championship during the inaugural 2011-2012 season in the pool for the Jackets. DC will join Ohio Northern, John Carroll, Baldwin-Wallace, Mount Union and Wilmington in the chase for the OAC Championship.

The Ohio Athletic Conference was founded in 1902 and has been crowning swimming and diving champions since 1937.

DC offers 21 varsity collegiate sports, with the addition of swimming and diving in 2011-2012 and men’s lacrosse beginning in 2012-2013. Defiance competes as a full-time member in the 11-team Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference in all sports other than swimming and lacrosse. The Jackets will also complete as an associate member in the 14-team Midwest Lacrosse Conference.
