Yellow Jackets Fall Short in Season Opener
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The season got under way for the Defiance women’s tennis team at Huntington University on Thursday evening. The Yellow Jackets were defeated by the Foresters by a score of 9-0. The Lady Jackets fought hard but fell short at picking up any wins. Senior Katie Carunchia lost in a close three-setter to Ciara Smith at the number four singles position. Carunchia lost the first set 6-0 but was able to rally in the second and pull it out by a score of 6-4 before dropping the third. Sophomore Tasha Brown also played well but ended up losing at the number five singles spot to Huntington’s Megan Adams by a score of 6-2, 7-5. The Yellow Jackets next will travel to Cincinnati to take on conference foe Mount St. Joseph on Saturday, September 10 at 10:00 a.m. The Jackets home opener is against Rose-Hulman on September 17, at 10:00 a.m. at the newly renovated Dix Tennis Facility.
