Gregg named WHAC Player of the Week after hot-hitting finish
DEFIANCE, Ohio - Defiance College senior infielder and pitcher Gunner Gregg (Graytown, Ohio/Oak Harbor) was selected as the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference's final Player of the Week of the season following a red-hot finish to the 2025 campaign.
Gregg played in all eight of DC's games last week and hit a remarkable .619 (13-for-21) with four multi-hit games, three of which were three-hit contests. He was a key piece in the Yellow Jackets finishing the season on a four-game winning streak and he delivered a two-run, walk-off double in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader sweep against UM-Dearborn. He finished that game with a career-high five RBIs and had seven total for the week. He managed to reach base in the final 11 games of the season and finished the month of April with a .431 (28-for-65) batting average, raising his season average to .333 on a career-best 52 hits. His hitting pace at the end of the season increased his career hit total to 148, finishing his college career with the ninth-most hits in program history. He also closed his career in the program's career top-10 in home runs (16, 4th), RBIs (77, 9th), walks (65, 7th), doubles (30, T-7th), extra-base hits (48, 5th) and games played (146, 3rd). Gregg also pitched a complete-game victory against UM-Dearborn on Saturday with a career-high 10 strikeouts, the most by a DC pitcher in a game since 2022.
The award is Gregg's third career Player of the Week Award and his second this season after picking up the WHAC's Pitcher of the Week Award on March 17. For the baseball program in 2025, the Yellow Jackets earned three weekly awards (Tim Bobek, Feb. 17; Gregg, March 17) and ties the DC football team for the most player of the week awards during the 2024-25 academic year.
