Esports Rundown: Yellow Jackets continue to ramp up in Fall '24 season
DEFIANCE, Ohio - Defiance College Esports continues to ramp up during the fall semester with competition in both the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) and the National Esports Collegiate Conference (NECC).
In Rocket League action, which has a fall champion awarded in the WHAC, the Yellow Jackets have dropped two matches since opening with a win against Lourdes. Facing Indiana Tech on Sept. 18, the Warriors took down DC 3-0 with games of 9-0, 8-1, and 13-2. Asa Moldedor, Cooper Sloan, and Blake Bowman were all limited to one goal apiece. Defiance took on Cleary on Monday night and were beaten 3-1 with some very tight games, losing 2-1, 7-0, 2-1 and 1-0. Moledor led the way with two goals while Sloan and Andre Tibbs each scored once in the match. The Jackets now stand 1-2 in WHAC Rocket League action.
In NECC action, Defiance opened the campaign in Valorant and lost to Northern Illinois' White team 2-0 (13-9, 13-1). Austin Howland led the squad with a 42/35 kill-to-death ratio while carrying an Average Combat Score of 356. Daniel Aranovsky posted a 26-25 and 225 ACS. Fernando Sanabria-Nieves, Damien Martinez, and Elijah Mayes also competed for Defiance.
DC will start NECC play in both Rocket League and Overwatch 2 at the end of the week.
