Jackets defeated by Toledo at Savage Arena
TOLEDO, Ohio - The Defiance Yellow Jackets traveled to Savage Arena on Saturday to face the Toledo Rockets and were dealt a 111-49 defeat.
The Yellow Jackets' (3-7, 1-4 WHAC) overall record was unharmed with the game classified as an exhibition game, their second of four this season. On the other hand, the Rockets improved to 6-3 as Toledo continues their search for a fifth consecutive Mid-American Conference championship. Saturday's contest was the first meeting between the programs since Dec. 2, 1948.
Toledo's size and physicality kept Defiance on the perimeter during the early stages that led to 11 of 25 Yellow Jacket shots from outside the arc. Six different DC players found the scoring column in the first half starting with a 3-pointer by Connor Bush. Donovan Stone closed the first half with an off-balance trey at the horn to take the game into the half at a 55-23 tally.
The Rockets shot the ball well and took care of the ball. They scored 42 of their 55 first-half points in the paint and took just five 3-point attempts over the first half. UT's work for high-quality attempts resulted in a 67.6 shooting percentage over the first half half aided by just two turnovers. The second half was much of the same as the Rockets went on to finish 65.7 percent from the field with just five total turnovers.
Defiance was led by Toledo native Jalen Brown with 12 points on the afternoon, all of which were scored in the second half highlighted by four 3-pointers. Fellow Toledo natives Christian Burton and Parker Chatman also got in the scoring column with two and one point respectively. Bush provided eight points and a team-high five rebounds while Stone totaled eight points before the halftime break.
