Jackets Shave Off 11 Strokes on Day Two of HCAC’s

CINCINATTI, Ohio – The Purple and Gold men's golf team was back on the links Sunday, April 28 and had a great bounce-back afternoon. After a rough start to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament, DC shot 11 strokes better as a team and finished with a scorecard of 347.
The biggest factor in the Jackets jump to a better score was sophomore Hurst Talbot. The second-year golfer struggled on day one by shooting a 101, but came out on Sunday and cleaned up his game to shoot an impressive 15 strokes better and finish with an 86 for the second day of action.
Junior Mike Ross came through with the top round for the second-straight day at the tournament and chalked up an 81 on his scorecard. After the first weekend of tournament play, the Bryan High product holds a score of 164 strokes that puts him tied for 20th overall.
Transylvania still leads at HCAC's with 597 strokes, but second place Hanover cut three strokes of its deficit heading into the afternoon and sits at 600. DC still remains in eighth place with a score of 705 strokes.
The Purple and Gold men's golf team returns to the links next weekend for the second round of the HCAC tournament. The final 36 holes will be hosted by Rose-Hulman and will be played at the Rea Park Golf Course in Terra Haute, Ind. Saturday, May 4 will be the first day of competition with action teeing off at 11 a.m.
