DC Men's Tennis Hosts Fall Tournament
DEFIANCE, OHIO -- The Defiance College men's tennis team hosted Olivet (Mich.) College and Shawnee State University for a fall tournament at the Dix Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.
DEFIANCE, OHIO -- The Defiance College men's tennis team hosted Olivet (Mich.) College and Shawnee State University for a fall tournament at the Dix Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.
The tournament kicked off with doubles flights, where Adam Swisher and Eline Widman defeated Olivet's Gilmer and Bindschatel in the semifinals, before dropping the final match to Olivet's duo of Croze and Green. In the second flight, Jared Schnee and Nathan Principe came back from down 4-1 to tie the match at 7-7, before falling to Olivet's pair of Doyle and Morris, 9-7. In their consolation match, Schnee and Principe rebounded to earn an 8-1 victory over Nobel and Pavlik from Olivet.
In the first flight, Schnee brouught home a victory in the opening round with a 6-4, 7-6(10) win. Swisher opened the flight with a bye and then knocked off Olivet's Drew Gilmer, 6-0, 6-2. Schnee was then defeated in his second round match by a score of 4-6, 6-0, 10-4. In the final of the flight, Swisher came home with the championship, a 6-0, 6-2 victory.
In flight two, Widman coasted to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Olivet's Donald Doyle and then knocked off Shawnee State's Nate Hinze 6-4, 6-2 to win the title at second singles.
In the third flight, Nate Principe started the day with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Olivet's Matt Paylik, before winning his semifinal match against Shawnee State's Caleb Moore, 6-1, 6-0. Principe was then forced to withdraw his championship match with an injury.
Defiance is set to open their spring season in March of 2018.
