Three Jacket Records Fall and Two Athletes Named All-Ohio

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Defiance College men's track team set two more DC all-time records on Saturday at the DIII All-Ohio Championships and had two athletes earn All-Ohio recognition. The Yellow Jackets turned in a superb performance at the meet, earning seventh place with 39 total points. [All-Ohio Results] [Raven Invitational Results]

The Purple and Gold's three-time defending HCAC Field Athlete of the Week, Tom Postema, earned another honor this weekend as the junior was named All-Ohio in two events. Postema placed first in the weight throw with a distance of 59-02.25 and second in shot put with a throw of 53-02.75. Both marks were Postema's second best of the season. The junior is currently in first place for each event in the HCAC and in the top 10 in the nation at the DIII level.

Sophomore Joe Davis was a standout for the Jackets on the afternoon in the 1-mile event. Davis recorded a time of 4:24.67, which set the school record. The time bested the previous record by over two seconds. The mark also moves the sophomore into third place in the current Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rankings for the event.

Junior Jordan Weber broke his own Yellow Jacket record at the Raven Invitational at Anderson on Saturday. The junior broke the record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.85 seconds. Weber is currently fifth in the HCAC in the event.

The other record setting performance of the afternoon came from the 4x400 relay team of Davis, Aaron Demecs, Troy Parrett and Dan Hardin-Wallace. The team combined for a time of 3:27.25, which placed fifth place at the championships. The mark is also good enough for second in the HCAC.

Another athlete who earned major points for the Jackets was freshman jumper Reggie Neal, who finished in second place in triple jump and received All-Ohio accolades. Neal posted a mark of 44-08.00 which is his personal record and second best in Defiance history. The freshman is currently in second place in the HCAC for the event.

Freshman Troy Parrett also turned in a noteworthy performance at the championships with his fourth place finish in the 800-meter dash. Parrett finished in a time of 1:58.15 which places the freshman second in the HCAC and the school record books.

In other action over the weekend, throwers Jacob Arnold and Luiyi Nunez threw personal best marks in the weight throw event at the Raven Invitational. Also at the meet freshman Dylan Waggy pole vaulted a height over 13 feet which is his personal best.

The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Saturday, February 18 at the HCAC Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. The championships are scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
